My video review questions!!!

1.       Prairie Style architecture was the most interesting of the videos. I learned that the concepts of building from Frank Lloyd Wright is that there is much more than just making a house and putting it on a site. With his horizontal style of home design, Wright makes his designs full of harmony in that the house is made a part of the landscape that it rises out of the land and the entrance is an experience rather than just an entrance. The change from segregated rooms into wide open spaces making the rooms flow into each other. He uses windows as walls from floor to ceilings joining the outside and the inside. He created the clerestory window letting sun in above the normal living space. Everything was built in to the house like the bookcases and fireplace.
2.       The classical architecture video simulates the book saying that Roman architecture was very influential to that of today’s architects. When you walk by a building with columns, you think that something important must be going on in there. This with the images and sculptures looked like a well designed wall paper stuck to the outside of the building.
3.       I think these films are a great help to me. They make me think of building and architecture as a living feeling in that you can do more with a square block in a space. You can make art from a design of a building. It is customizable to the feelings and lifestyle to the client and not just colors here and bricks or tiles there. Thank you
4.       Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art is the video that I chose because I am getting more involved with some cool designs at my work that simulate art. Frank Gehry thinks of place, time and never wants to be repeating himself. He wants a feeling or response from his designs and not just building a container. I also found that his influence from paintings that he calls his “fuel” for ideas is great. I found that I had the same feelings when I went to the art gallery. I had different connections with many different paintings and felt that I wanted to put that into my shop drawings at work.
Thank you
